One of the cars that competed in the 1989 Spa 24 Hours, a well-known endurance race for touring cars, was the Toyota Tom's Corolla Levin AE92. Developed based on the Toyota Corolla Levin AE92 sports car, this Group A-spec car was equipped with a 1587cc inline-four engine mounted at the front. It was a front-wheel drive, front-wheel drive car.
It competed in touring car races in Japan, honing its skills through close battles with rivals. It then took on the world's leading touring car competitors in the Spa 24 Hours. The 1989 race took place on July 22nd and 23rd, and the Levin with car number 34 was driven by three drivers: Hideshi Matsuda, Morio Nitta, and Kaori Okamoto. Okamoto's participation, who was also active as an actress at the time, attracted considerable attention. The car qualified 33rd on the grid, and maintained a steady drive in the final race, finishing 49 laps behind the leader, but still managed to finish third in its class.
